View this post on Instagram I hear it's #worlddigestivehealthday and since it's my own digestion (and my own ruining of it through different diets) that launched me on this quest for health, on this journey to feel better, that made me start visiting Ayurvedic spas in India all those years ago and eventually lead me to writing my two books Saffron Soul and Prajna, I thought it's a good time to post something about my journey and rituals. Digestion is at the heart of Ayurveda. Digestion really is the key to feeling our best. . I delve into this in my second book Prajna, but here's a few key principles that I abide by, and more so recently during lockdown, since we're at home and have time to apply these principles: . Eat more cooked foods rather than raw and cook with spices always, for flavour and digestion. . Fast 12-14 hours overnight, which means eating relatively early evening and waiting for 1-2 hours before having breakfast in the morning. . Take breaks between meals and try not to snack too much which helps strengthen the digestive fire, what is called the agni. . Digestive waters: love these and mix them up daily with different spices from cumin seeds and coriander seeds to fennel and ajwain (I have given recipes for all these options in both my books). . Stretching really helps massage the internal organs so allowing evening time for some deep yin yoga. . Breathwork and movement, for energy, calm and happiness (gets all that serotonin flowing) . and of course water water water.... hydrating well! . There's lots more about what to eat according to your body type, eating more plants, things like kichri and mung beans... but the above are a few of my key principles. . Happy weekend and digestion all xx . #digestion #digest #wellbeing #feelgood #feelbetter #ayurveda #rituals #yoga #fasting #plants #eatmoreplants #happiness #guthealth #plantbased #plantpower #prana #energy #wellness #myjourney #nutrition #feelinggood #krishna #gratitude #fridaymood #spices #cleanse #goodforthegut #breathwork #yoga #yinyoga A post shared by M ī R A M A N E K (@miramanek) on May 29, 2020 at 12:02pm PDT
