For 7 days Bulgarians have taken to the streets to protest against the government demanding normality, independent institutions and the supreme rule of the law for all. This is not the first massive protest we have seen in recent years, nor the first one I'm fully supporting. We are simply fed up with mafia making decisions that impact our children's future. Certain names have become synonymous with corruption. These names are known to the kids now - kids are chanting "resign" and "out with the mafia", they chant the name of the Chief Prosecutor and demand he be sent to jail. Today the Prime Minister has demanded the resignations of the Minister of Interior Marinov, the Minister of Finance Goranov and the Minister of Economy Karanikolov. Not bad for 7 days on the streets :) but our focus remains on 4 other names. We will be on the streets tomorrow. PS. According to different sources, the amount of money stolen throughout the so-called period of transition to democracy from socialism is estimated at over BGN 190 billion. That's the equivalent of €100 billion. I'm sure these numbers are actually significantly higher. Bulgaria is not a poor country. It simply lacks proper functioning institutions and the rule of law. And it's up to us to fix this. • • • • • #ostavka #bulgaria #bulgariaprotests #sofiaprotests #sofiastreets #protests #antigovernment #bulgariannews #wecare #forbulgaria #bulgariantraveler #bulgariaofficial #bulgaria #euareyoublind #changeiscoming #corruption #government #democracy #politics #transition #showyoucare #bethechangeyouwanttosee #responsibility #freedomofpress
